The Swedish Defense Forces have ordered the development of a new encryption module from Swedish company Sectra. The encryption module will handle most of the security-critical segments of the Defense Forces' encryption systems, such as algorithmic and encryption keys, and will constitute a base for potential secure communication within Sweden's Defense Forces. The value of the order is slightly more than SEK 2 M.
"For Sectra, this order means that we will develop a new family of encryption modules to meet the future needs of Sweden's Defense Forces. This will strengthen our role as the leading supplier of encryption systems to the future Defense Forces," says Tommy Waszkiewicz, President of Sectra Communications AB.
Encryption modules
The new generation of encryption module will form the base for future encryption systems adapted for the different needs of the Defense Forces of tomorrow. The separate demands of the various encryption systems will be met by developing variants of the new encryption module.
Sectra's different products and system solutions within the information security area are based on a uniform security structure. The most security-critical functions will be handled by encryption modules that contain encryption algorithms and keys. Sectra has been entrusted to develop encryption modules by FMV (Defense Matériel Administration) for the Swedish Defense Forces since the mid-1980s. As a result of Sectra's competence to develop even the most critical subcomponents, its products can attain the most optimal levels of security and performance.
