At Europe’s largest center for teleradiology:

Sectra’s next-generation PACS in use for worldwide remote diagnostic services

At Telemedicine Clinic, Europe’s largest center for radiology service improvement and remote reading of radiology images, radiologists worldwide use the new version of Sectra PACS for reviewing and processing digital radiology images.

Scarcity of radiologists and increasing workloads are important drivers behind the growing need for distributed reading capabilities. Today, many facilities are looking for efficient solutions to view images and information across hospital and clinic boundaries.

TMC, based in Barcelona, was set up in 2002 to support public hospitals and to meet the increasing demand for radiology expertise in European regions where a scarcity of medical specialists has caused problems in the delivery of healthcare services.

At TMC, more than 80 sub-specialist radiologists are working remotely in a Europe-wide competence network, reviewing examinations on assignment from public healthcare providers throughout Europe. More than 100,000 radiology examinations, mainly complex MRI and CT scans, are reviewed annually through TMC’s network.

“We work in an extremely distributed reading environment, with examinations often containing large data volumes. To handle this, we recently replaced our old PACS provider with Sectra. Sectra’s new IDS7 workstation has made it possible for us to work more efficiently and take on larger examination volumes than before,” says Dr. Hans Billing, MRI expert and responsible for ensuring medical quality of diagnostic services at Telemedicine Clinic.

With Sectra’s next-generation of PACS workstations, the center’s radiologists can quickly, reliably and efficiently review and distribute images and diagnosis even in cases in which the networks do not always have the desired capacity and when there are very large datasets per examination.

About Sectra’s next-generation PACS

Sectra PACS is designed to handle large datasets in a distributed reading scenario, with images being acquired at one hospital or clinic and read at another location, either from a radiologist’s home office or from another hospital. Dynamic data reduction makes it possible to work from remote locations, even over networks of poor quality. Sectra PACS eliminates problems encountered in working with large datasets, providing radiologists with the perfect reading tool in a data-intense environment.
