Sectra provides digital mammography to public hospital in Norway

Sectra has received its first Norwegian order for Sectra MicroDose Mammography from the hospital in Förde. The order value amounts to EUR 900,000.

Sectra's mammography system provides the lowest radiation dose on the international market. The system permits mammography technicians and radiologists to work more efficiently and safer without exposing women to higher radiation doses than necessary.

"We have closely evaluated digital mammography systems from many suppliers. The choice fell to Sectra, which provides us with an efficient workflow, good ergonomics and which is based on technology permitting us to use minimal radiation doses in breast examinations," says senior physician Inger Marie Juel, Breast unit at the Förde Hospital.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer afflicting women in the western world. Early detection saves lives and the purpose of mammography is to detect cancer at an early stage, when treatment has the greatest effect. In Norway women between the ages of 50 through 69 are summoned to a mammography health test about every two years. Approximately 6,000 women are examined each year at the Förde Hospital.

"The mammography clinic in Förde is one of the first clinics in Norway to initiate digital mammography screening. Through integrating Sectra's system with other IT systems at the hospital, combined with the Norwegian cancer register, we can contribute to increasing the efficiency of Förde's mammography operations," says Steiner Hellum, Sales manager at Sectra in Norway.
