Today, Rikshospitalet in Norway, a university hospital with a high international reputation, successfully uses Sectra PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System) for both its cardiology and radiology operations.
With Sectra PACS, cardiologists now have access to all images taken at the hospital, including images from CT, MR and ultrasound as an example. Together with access to totally integrated cardiology tools, this helps ensure a fast and efficient clinical workflow. One single platform also enables smooth integration of radiology and cardiology, two departments where radiology images are used most frequently within hospitals, allowing efficient information exchange between the departments.
"Using a single workstation that presents all the radiology and cardiology patient data is a great advantage to us as we do not lose precious time gathering information from different systems anymore, "says Cardiologist Knut Endresen at Rikshospitalet. "Having Sectra PACS on both departments also provides favorable opportunities for coordination between the radiology and cardiology departments as well as lower maintenance costs", he continues.
Rikshospitalet is a university hospital with a very high degree of specialization. It is the Norwegian national center for organ transplantation, and it is a major cardiology center, both for children and adults.
"Traditionally, cardiology and radiology departments have been using separate systems for image handling in their operations. At Rikshospitalet, we have successfully shown in practice that a common PACS is the future," says Åge Sjåfjell, President of Sectra Norge AS.
The Sectra PACS extension module for cardiology works with all Sectra PACS installations, and can be obtained from Sectra and from some of our partners.
