Kalmar County Council, on the east coast of southern Sweden, buys three new mammography stands from Sectra. The deal was completed today, and it means that the County Council will be committed to a digital mammography that is safer for the patients.
Sectra's mammography system provides the lowest radiation dose on the international market. This is an important factor in mammography screening where large numbers of healthy patients are examined.
In Kalmar County every woman between 40-74 years can participate in a mammography program. More than 40,000 women go to screening every other year to have any breast cancer detected in time. An early detection saves lives and costs for the medical service.
As the Kalmar mammography program extends, the County Council invests in three new mammography stands that will be placed at the hospitals of Kalmar, Oskarshamn and Västervik. Together with the Sectra image management system for processing and archiving of breast images, every hospital will have one digital solution. The images will be shown on screen, all film and developing is gone. The doctors and the radiologists will have the results quicker.
"It was really important that we got a mammography system that really works", says Mari-Anne Jenning, responsible for the mammography in Kalmar County Council. "Sectra could deliver a total solution with mammography, archives and registers".
"We have chosen Sectra because the system can manage a high throughput", says Dr Magnus Rosenborg at Kalmar County Hospital. "The Sectra stand has a lower radiation dose, which is good for the women we screen. It is also directly digital, which is good for the staff that gets away from the heavy film handling".
Sectra has installed more than half of all the film free radiology systems in Sweden. In the whole world Sectra has over 600 installations of digital radiology image management systems. The Sectra Mammography stand is an easy-to-use digital system that supports the entire workflow, from examination to documented diagnosis. The system provides unsurpassed throughput, customised workflow and good ergonomics. Sectra has delivered and installed it´s mammography system in countries as Sweden, Germany, and Ireland.
"Mammography is our major future-oriented investment and we have recruited 20 new employees to work within our mammography division", says Jesper Söderqvist, president of Sectra Mamea. "The County Council of Kalmar has chosen to commit themselves to an advanced and safe health care for women and the three hospitals will have a rational system with an excellent imaging quality".
